OMICRON PROJECT: Towards a more automated and optimized maintenance, renewal and upgrade of roads by means of robotized technologies and intelligence decision support tools

2021

The project has a consortium of 9 companies and 7 universities and technological centres

Automation, Monitoring, Robotics, Virtual reality, Safety, Multi - UAV, Drones, Digital twin, BIM, Maintenance

The aim of the OMICRON project is to promote the industrialisation and automation of road construction, inspection and maintenance technologies. We integrate an extensive solution portfolio, from inspection to execution, to improve safety levels, increase availability, reliability and capacity of the road network: reduce traffic interruptions and decrease construction and maintenance costs.

For this purpose, a large variety of innovative technologies are going to be developed and validated using on-site demos (CEF corridors): 1) Digital inspection (drones, V2X communications); 2) BIM-oriented digital twins (DT); 3) predictive tool for decision-making through a smart management platform (DST); 4) automaton and smart robotics, using VR and AR, for maintenance tasks, where safety is increased such as: installing, cleaning and deletion of signposting, spreading asphalt mixtures, sealing cracks, replacement of safety barriers and modular construction of bridges via prefabricated elements.
