The main objective of the project is to obtain new asphalt mixtures that counteract the effects of the thermal variations that bituminous mixtures can suffer, keeping the same mechanical characteristics as current mixtures with lower environmental cost with the use of “Phase Change Materials” (PCMs). The aim with this is to prevent the formation of ice on the surface layer, increasing road safety, as well as minimising thermal variations, both during the installation process, obtaining a better execution quality, and later in the service, avoiding the fluctuations between day and night, which translates into lower thermal stress and greater durability of the mixture.

Project financed by the Valencian Institute for the Small and Medium-sized Industry (IMPIVA) through the Department of Industry, Trade and Innovation of the Generalitat Valencia (IMIDTF/2010/139) and co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
